Maheen Zia

Maheen Zia is a Karachi-based filmmaker. Her documentary has been aired both locally and internationally on Al Jazeera, Nat Geo, NHK, Geo Television Network, Aaj Television and Samaa Television. In 2008 she received the Berlin Today Award for her short fiction film Match Factor. In 2015, her first feature length documentary Lyari Notes—co-directed and co-produced with Miriam Chandy Menacherry—had its world premiere at International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam and aired on Al Jazeera’s Witness slot. She has also produced documentaries for WWF and IUCN Pakistan. A founding member of the KaraFilm Society, she has also served as a jury member at several international film festivals such as Dhaka International Film Festival, Fajr International Film Festival, Kabul Documentary and Short Film Festival, Hyderabad International Film Festival, Tehran International Short Film Festival, and the Tampere Film Festival. She has collaborated on several projects with Madiha Aijaz and the two recently begun work on a feature length documentary.
